Furniture Finisher

Responsibilities

Work alongside Workshop Manager in finishing /restoration of Antique and custom-made furniture, millwork and other wooden objects and surfaces. Engage in the daily functions of workshop operations, including preparing surfaces for finishing; stripping, sanding, minor wood repair; and follow through with complete finishing process. Finishing process includes mixing stain to match, applying stain and finishing, sealing, waxing and buffing according to project directives. Mind details and meet deadlines. Perform onsite client service to include touch up where required. Train and advise other employees and finishers on restoration projects and safety procedures. Engage in heavy lifting of supplies for finishing and restoration for onsite work.

Job Requirements

Employer requires two years of relevant work experience. Work experience must have included:

  • Color matching, both in oil and water based stains;

  • Engaging in finish conservation and restoration;

  • Practical application of various finishes including: French polish, lacquer, nitro-cellulose, vinyl, polyurethane, and wax;

  • Practical application of finishing techniques: hand rubbed finishes, glazing, aged, faux finishes and spray application;

  • Detailed finishing and refinishing on all wood surfaces;

  • Use of hand sanding tools, finishing gun, and finish buffer and tools;

  • Mentoring/training subordinates;

  • Lifting more than 75 lbs of supplies; and

  • Clean driving record.
