CONDITION
The table was structurally sound, although there
was systemic delaminating of gesso and gilding
throughout the whole piece. Prior repairs were
evident, and many were failing. There were
sections of detached carving that had been re-
glued and were not in alignment with the overall
composition. Most sections of gilding were repaired
with bronzing powders. TREATMENT
The table was consolidated on site for handling
and moving for further treatment in studio.
All surfaces were cleaned to remove residues from
oils, dirt, and any improper repairs including bronze
paint. The areas of detached gesso and gilding
were reattached, and exposed wood and gesso
were in-filled. The new gilding matched existing
color, karat and sheen. Existing gilded sections
were coated for protection and detectable under
ultra violet light. |
