19th Century Gilt Wood Table
The table was structurally sound, although there was systemic
delaminating of gesso
and gilding throughout the whole piece. Prior repairs were evident,
and many were
failing. There were sections of detached carving that had been
re-glued and were not
in alignment with the overall composition.

Mid 19th Century Mahogany Round Dining Table with
12 Extension Leaves
The diameter, when fully extended, was 132 inches. The table
had a telescopic
screw mechanism patented in 1861 by Samuel Hawkins of Bishopsgate,
London.

Carved Eagle
When the sculpture arrived at the studio,
pieces from the left wing were detached.
There were missing parts, chipping and abrasions along the profile
of wings and
feather area. The base had an expansion crack. The finish was worn
on the
wings, head and neck.

Style Boulle Work Table
The piece had a tortoise shell ground with inlaid brass.
Over time the adhesive that
was used has become weak and seasonal changes have caused the brass
to lift and
loosen in many places. Each piece of brass was cleaned of old adhesive,
polished
and reapplied.

Century Serpentine Walnut Secretary
The drop front would not open and close properly. The drawers and
case structure
was unstable. One of the drawers did not fit the structure and most
of the drawer pulls
were missing. In the secretary interior, the writing surface was
dirty, and had
discolored and damaged finish.

The panel was exposed to flood water and high humidity which caused
expansion
cracks and discoloration.

Style Marquetry Table with Serpentine Walnut Top
The front right corner of the serpentine top had an expansion
crack running through
the veneer and substrate as well as the carved apron. Several areas
of marquetry
veneer were released and lifting from the substrate.

Blackstone Memorial Library Gilt Plaster Conservation
and Restoration
The ornamental plaster work surrounding the four magnificent
murals by Oliver
Dennett Grover is toned to give a very subtle rubbed patina. There
are four different
areas of original toning. There are medium dark green rectangles
on the spandrel
